Studying abroad (ERASMUS)

Students at the Dresden Academy of Fine Arts once again have an opportunity to plan three to twelve months of study at a partner university in another country. If their application is successful, they can apply for an ERASMUS grant and a mobility allowance.

Students will find it easier to integrate their study abroad into their existing course if they have already completed the first stage of their studies.

Please bear in mind that semesters do not begin on the same date at all universities. Make sure you find out in good time when applications need to be submitted at the university you are hoping to attend.

Recognising credits obtained abroad:

HfBK Dresden awards up to 30 credits per semester on all courses. The Higher Education Act in Saxony provides in § 35 (9): “Credits and examinations obtained at a university [...] will be recognised upon application unless there are significant differences in the skills acquired. Art colleges constitute an exception to sentence 1; here credits and examinations are recognised upon application if their equivalence has been established. Reasons for non-recognition must be provided in writing. The decision to recognise credits and examinations or to establish equivalence will be taken by the body designated in the regulations governing examinations or the award of post-graduate doctoral qualifications or other appropriate rules.” These regulations can be consulted at

All Erasmus students will receive a Transcript of Records at the end of their stay. This is a record of all their achievements during their stay abroad.

Language preparation:

We urgently recommend starting to learn the language of the host country before leaving to study there. HfBK Dresden unfortunately does not offer language courses, but the Academy has a cooperation agreement with TUDIAS.
