Fine Arts

Standard Course Duration:  5 Jahre
Academic title awarded: Diplom

Being an artist is not a profession in the classical sense, yet becoming an artist is one of the most intriguing lifestyle choices of our era. Those who wish to take this path harbour a fundamental desire to not only develop themselves artistically, but also involve all aspects of their individuality in that process. A degree in Fine Art at the Dresden Academy of Fine Arts offers students the opportunity to gain important experience and skills across the broad spectrum of modern art in order to enable them to take their own artistic path in the future.

The high standards set by the 10-semester degree course are essentially a product of the complex discourse which takes place between teaching staff and students. By bringing artist experience and the creative potential of participating students into dialogue, the 13 classes led by the Dresden Academy of Fine Arts’ artist professors remain topical, stimulating and practice-oriented. Art theory, art history and philosophy are also key elements of the degree course.

The spaciousness, equipment and architecture of the studios and workshops in the recently refurbished academic building on the Brühlsche Terrasse and at the sculptors’ complex on the Pfotenhauerstraße combine to create outstanding working conditions. Our prestigious, internationally renowned professoriate is characterized by a variety of artistic concepts, and this not only leads to lively exchange within the Dresden Academy of Fine Arts itself, but also offers students the opportunity to select course input which reflects their own artistic intentions.
