Application documents and portfolio


Separate submission of application documents and a portfolio of work by the 15th of March 2016 is a prerequisite for participation in the aptitude test.

1. Application documents (to be submitted in an A4 envelope)

  • Application form with pasted passport photos;
  • Curriculum vitae;
  • Copies of school reports;
  • Description of personal development, indication of desired course of study (max. 1 side of an A4 page);
  • Aptitude test application form;
  • A stamped (or franked) addressed envelope for the return of your application documents.

Please do not use any clear plastic sheets or envelopes, staples or folders for the presentation of your application documents. By submitting your application documents as loose sheets in the order indicated above you make the job of processing your application easier for us.


2. Portfolio

The portfolio is to include minumum 25 pieces of your own artistic work. (graphic work, i.e. drawings using a variety of techniques, black/white and colour collages, photos, videos, objects, sculptures, installations, sketch books, coloured plates.) Three-dimensional work is to be documented using photos (with indication of dimensions and materials). Rolled-up work and internet-based content are not permitted.
The artistic works should be presented also on CD additionally, labeled with your name. This CD will remain in the HfBK Dresden, your portfolio will be returned after the artistic aptitude test.

Application documents and portfolios can also be submitted in person to the Academy’s Brühlsche Terrasse 1 building from Monday to Friday between the hours of 8 a.m. and 6 p.m. The Academy is closed between the 19.12.2015 and the 03.01.2016.

Multiple applications require the submission of a complete set of application documents (including samples of work) for each degree course/pathway applied for.

The samples of work submitted are also a component part of the artistic aptitude test. It is therefore imperative that the above-mentioned submission deadline is adhered to.

Please clearly label your portfolio and all work therein with your first name, last name and home address – do not enclose any additional documents! In order for your portfolio to be forwarded to the appropriate admission commission, we also request that you clearly label the portfolio or its packaging with the degree course you are applying for.

Application documents which arrive late or do not fulfil the stipulated criteria cannot be processed.
