Subject areas

The theoretic-scientific basics relevant to the study of all subjects offered by the HfBK are taught in the subject areas of Art History, Theatre Studies and Philosophy/Aesthetics and combined with practical implementation in the subject areas of Architecture and Comprehensive Interior Design as well as Anatomy.

Philosophy/Aesthetics

Applied Theatre Studies and Production Dramaturgy

Architecture and Comprehensive Interior Design

Anatomy for Artists

Special teaching assignments, which are geared to specific professional needs, complement the regular curriculum. This also includes lectures and discussion series on current topics such as the lecture series “Interdisciplinary Anatomy” that is jointly organised by the HfBK Dresden and TU Dresden, in which scientists of various disciplines discuss fundamental questions on the subject: humans. In addition to lectures, exercises and seminars, courses are conducted, which are in keeping with the special study situation at an art college. For example, individual studio visits, group discussions on student problems or project-related studio discussions.

The lectures and presentation events of the subject areas of Art History, Theatre Studies and Philosophy/Aesthetics are public; non-academy students and students of the TU Dresden regularly attend them.

The possibility of pursuing doctoral studies in scientific subject areas in art colleges opens up new opportunities, which take into account the current networking of art and science. The Hochschule für Bildende Künste Dresden steps up the further shaping of research and education in this context. In and between their subject areas, the representatives of Art History and Philosophy/Aesthetics have defined a field of doctoral studies, whose key points Modern Art History, Art Theory and Philosophical Aesthetics open up a space to reflect on the interdisciplinary issues of today's art and aesthetic theory. The interdisciplinary structure/postgraduate education oversees a highly topical field of research and bridges the gap between the HfBK Dresden and the different university study locations. The option of pursuing doctoral studies is open to university graduates from relevant disciplines.
