What does guest lectureship mean?
Guest lectureships are a specific form of continuing education with a preparatory, career-oriented and career-promoting character. It can also be aimed at general further education.
Who can be a guest student?
Prospective students who wish to attend individual courses at the Dresden University of Fine Arts can be admitted as guest students within the available capacity, even if they do not have a university entrance qualification.
What does it cost to be a guest student?
The fee is currently EUR 50 per semester (as per the Fee and Charges Regulations dated 15.01.2025)
How do I register?
Admission as a guest student for individual courses is granted upon application to the Department of Student Affairs by July 15 for the following winter semester and by January 15 for the following summer semester.
You need the approval of the lecturer whose course you would like to attend. The dean of the respective faculty must also give their approval.

What do I need to consider?
Admission is granted by issuing a guest auditor's license for one semester and entitles the holder to attend the courses listed there. Guest auditor status does not constitute a membership relationship with the Dresden University of Fine Arts. This means that you are not entitled to work independently in studios and workshops or to take examinations.
What is a guest study program?
Students who are enrolled at another art college or university can complete individual semesters in a subject-related or similar degree program at the University of Fine Arts. They are enrolled as part-time students.
How do I register?
Admission as a visiting student for individual semesters is granted upon application to the Department of Student Affairs by July 15 for the following winter semester and by January 15 for the following summer semester. Please send a request to referat-sta@hfbk-dresden.de in good time.
What documents do I need?
- Application for admission as a visiting student [PDF, in German]
- Certificate of enrollment for the current and upcoming semester (if available) from the first university
- Informal, written declaration of consent from the supervising university lecturer
- Further proof, if applicable, if further admission requirements have been specified
What does a guest study program cost?
- Payment of the regular semester fee is required for enrolment
- If applicable, individual fees can be waived if they have already been paid at the university where the main course of study takes place
- Visiting students have the option of waiving the semester ticket
