Doctoral studies

The Hochschule für Bildende Künste, which has a university status, has the right to award doctorates in the scientific disciplines of Art History, Art Theory and Philosophical Aesthetics, Art Technology, Preservation and Restoration as well as Art Therapy.

The doctoral regulations of the University of Fine Arts Dresden define the prerequisites, procedures, and requirements of a doctoral program.
They constitute the binding legal framework for all doctoral studies at HfBK Dresden.

PhD programmes

A PhD is possible in the following degree programmes:

It is also possible to enroll as a doctoral student in the summer semester or winter semester.

The “Application for Enrollment in Doctoral Studies” must be submitted to the Office of Academic Affairs together with the documents required in the application, the “Doctoral Studies Application Form,” and the “Confirmation of Admission to the Doctoral Student List” within the re-registration period for the following semester.

Doktorandenvertretung

At HfBK Dresden, there is a doctoral students’ representative body that advocates for the interests of doctoral candidates within the university.
It is part of the university’s academic committees and institutional structures.
