Profile
In this class risk-taking and experimentation are central. An open mind is highly encouraged so that new and unexpected methodologies can be considered. On the one hand, for example, we will embrace radical uncertainty by discarding our assumptions and relinquishing control, while on the other hand we will utilize theory, analysis, technique and tools to regain control. Fluctuation between being lost and having clarity is encouraged.
Through this an understanding of the full range of artistic options and parameters can be achieved so that the students will gain agency to find their individual artistic position in terms of content, process, and visual language.
It is paramount that the community of the class is both engaged and supportive. The course will consider four distinct aspects of art making, both through individual studio visits and topical group seminars: research, preparation, production and presentation.
