English for Art Students

Speaking Practice or Proofreading for HfBK Dresden Students in Faculty I

Within the framework of the EU4ART pilot project, students from Faculty I have the opportunity to polish their English speaking, writing, or application documents with a professional English instructor and native speaker. Katrina Pennington, from the United States, studies at the HfBK Dresden and is currently involved with EU4ART. Interested students will receive one sixty-minute meeting in which, per the student's needs, any of the following topics can be addressed:

  • Proofreading of student's CV, application materials, portfolio, artist statement, etc.
  • Practice with introductions, interviews, explaining one's work
  • Presentations of artworks, studio visits
  • Small talk or discussion of art-related topics

Available meeting times are on Thursdays from 9am-10am or 10am-11am. To schedule an appointment, please register for a time slot on the following Doodleand send a confirmation email to katrinapennington@rz.hfbk-dresden.de

Until further notice, meetings will take place online via Zoom. When the University reopens, meetings will take place in the EU4ART office at the Brühlsche Terrasse 1, Room 202. The meeting location or Zoom link will be communicated via email in advance.

Please note: sixty minutes will not permit translation of documents from German, which is why appointments are not intended to serve as a translation service. Students must bring any documents they wish to review and correct in English. (Online translators like Google can help to prepare a first draft.) Students are welcome to bring a copy of their documents in German to compare.
