mentoring

Do you have questions related to career start, self-employment or start-up? Do you want to know what opportunities await you after graduation? Or how to master everyday professional life? Then apply for mentoring at the HfBK Dresden!

“My experience as a mentor was very enriching and refreshing. It's great to take a different perspective and then, after spending a few years doing professional artistic work, to come back to talk to new, up-and-coming talent, to question them as well as yourself. I tried to share my impulses, but I also learnt new impulses for my own work.”

Stephanie Lüning, former mentee and mentor

Details about mentoring

Mentoring gives you the opportunity to get in touch with a mentor personally. Most of the mentors have studied at the HfBK Dresden themselves and know from their own experience how difficult the initial years after graduation often are. As a result, they can give you important tips for your own development and make you aware of your individual path as an artist.

The application deadline for Mentoring 2022 has passed. There will be a new announcement for the next round next year. Further information will follow.

  •   Contact details
  •   CV
  •   Letter of motivation
  •   Portfolio
  •   OPTIONAL: your suggestion for a mentor

Mentors are often themselves key players in the art scene and most of them have completed their studies at the HfBK Dresden. In 2022, 7 mentoring places were offered. Matching took place together with the mentors. The Career Service of the HfBK Dresden then arranged the contacts.

After matching, we will make contact with you. Then, it is up to you to take the initiative. As a rule, two one-to-one meetings can take place, for example, in the respective studios.

We cannot give you a general idea about the actual scope of mentoring and the intensity of exchange. The initiative comes from you.

The mentoring programme of the HfBK Dresden has been taking place since the winter semester 2013/14. A new round is coordinated every year and it ends with the opening of the graduation exhibition in mid-July.

Networking, project planning, project implementation and, of course, artistic exchange are fundamental aspects of working as an artist. These are well tested during mentoring.

Ludwig Kupfer, two-time mentee
