Artistic basics

Profile

If one want to explore the broad spectrum of artistic basics, it is important to experience its universal character. The term “basics” soon turns out to be misleading. Studying the basics of artistic examination is an ongoing process; artistic laws are permanent elements of all creation: like an objective core in a versatile shell, not always easy to recognise. Image-space-form-colour laws often have the reputation of being too abstract and dogmatic. This is true if one looks at them in isolation. That is why their study should include individual sensual application to learn about how they actually work.

In the technical college study programme Theatre Setting, artistic basics are taught on the basis of a complex design theory of art and sculpture with the following focus:

  • training of a complex perception and the ability to appropriately implement the results;
  • examination of a colour, form and design theory;
  • its application in artistic and sculpting work in the studio and during projects;
  • stage conception, design and project work.

All components are conditional upon and pervade each other; they are taught consecutively and yet synchronously.
The universal spectrum, the variety of possibilities, opens up when alternating between practical work and analysis, production and reflection.

What an examination of artistic basics can provide alongside knowledge, rules and craftsmanship is the impulse for creativity, which is the crucial core. The training and promotion of creative potential are essential if the professional profiles of theatre setting have to achieve more flexibility and autonomy.
