Profile

Over a period of eight semesters, the Costume Design (costume construction and design) course is supposed to enable students to analyse costume designs for dance, musical and spoken theatre as well as for film and television productions in their dramaturgical context and to design them independently.
Such sensitive work requires a high level of creativity, artistic empathy and confidence in dealing with stylistic epochs and cultural history in general. The right balance of one's own interpretive aspiration and the need to implement a given artistic task determines the appeal and difficulty of this challenging profession in equal measure.

The ability to plan the respective project in terms of material technology, organisation and finances is another important prerequisite for successful work.
The above-mentioned qualities are systematically developed through successively structured course contents of the foundation course, main course, internships and diploma theses. In addition to teaching the necessary theoretical and artistic basics, the processes of interpretation and realisation as well as their aesthetic, technical and economic aspects are dealt with as examples in projects with other universities, theatres and museums.

Upon completing their studies, graduates are artistically and technically qualified to work in leading roles in the field of costume production in theatre, film, television or other media.
