Review of a mobile spring

Many teaching staff of the four Alliance Academies used the extension phase of the EU4ART project until the end of April 2023 for an active exchange with colleagues on site or gave workshops for students in Budapest, Dresden, Rome and Riga.

Visits by colleagues from Dresden

In March, Irina Claußnitzer, Cornelia Melzer, Christiane Oertel and Jacob Korn travelled to Riga and presented their teaching activities in various presentation formats. Jochen Beißert, in his function as Chancellor of the HfBK and as a member of the Steering Committee, also visited the Academy in Riga. Irina Claußnitzer and Dietmar Günther visited the printing workshops of the Budapest Academy in March. Susanne Greinke, Christiane Oertel, Jacob Korn and Dominik Dives were able to exchange ideas and network intensively with colleagues in Rome. In April, Professor Christiane Sery, Dorothée Billard and Susanne Greinke visited the Academy in Riga and were able to exchange ideas with students and colleagues in various formats and platforms.

Visits by colleagues from Riga, Budapest and Rome

In the first three April the HfBK welcomed many guests from Budapest, Riga and Rome. Several workshops for students, presentations and intensive professional discussions made for an active last month in the EU4ART project. Professor Guntars Sietiņš, Sabīne Vekmane-Ābele and Reinis Gailitis from Riga held two seminars in cooperation with colleagues from the Screen Printing and Etching Workshop/Irina Claußnitzer and Dietmar Günther on "Photography as a visual note for printmaking" and "Copperplate Engraving".
Veronika Voļska and Reinis Liepa, also from Riga, led the seminar "Charcoal drawing on canvas" and were supported by Kristof Grunert and Maja Drachsel. Another Latvian colleague, Kristaps Andersons, presented his artistic work in the lecture "Baltic 90ties kid in Nowdays artist body". In the subsequent "Paper Welding" workshop, students were able to learn a special working technique. The book and paper workshop /Christiane Oertel cooperated here.

The intensive exchange continued with the visit of several Hungarian colleagues. Ábel Kotormán demonstrated the working technique of wax modelling in his seminar "The modular structure of the human body" in cooperation with the workshop for metal processing /Toralf Mjetk. Zoltán Ötvös gave his lecture "Budapest Horror" in the Güntzstraße lecture hall and visited Professor Christian Sery's class for talks the following day. Professor Mária Chilf led an intensive 2-day workshop in Professor Christian Macketanz's class. Another Hungarian colleague, László Győrffy, presented his research work "Study of painting technique of the old masters by making a copy" in a presentation in Maja Drachsel's painting workshop. The two doctoral students Bianka Dobó and Andrea Szilák from the Budapest graphics department visited the Grafische Werkstätten am Brühl and had an intensive exchange with their colleagues in the workshops.

Professor Piero Mottola from Rome was a guest in Professor Olaf Nicolai's class. His 2-hour presentation "Sound Design, Audio and Mixing, Ornamental Plastic" was followed by an intensive discussion with students and colleagues. The stone sculpture workshop, which lasted several days and was led by Professor Oriana Impei, took place on the campus of Pfotenhauerstraße. Here, the students had the opportunity to try out classical work on the material stone and to take part in a lecture on sculpture parks in Italy. Professor Barbara Wille was in close contact with her Roman colleague. Stefania Teodonio came to continue the professional discussions on the topics of curating and exhibition curating. Together with Susanne Greinke, she visited various studios of students and graduands as well as galleries and offspaces in Dresden. At the invitation of professors Kristin Marek and Stefanie Wenner, Ketty Di Tardo and Miriam Mirolla gave a lecture on "Interaction - from Psychology of Art to Architecture and Design" in the Güntzstraße lecture hall.
