Murals and Artistic Architectural Surfaces

Between 1952 and 1989 in the context of the technical education at the Dresden University of Fine Arts (HfBK Dresden). Origin - transmission - preservation

New research project in the field of art technology, conservation and restoration of mural painting and architectural colour

The project includes an essential, but still little treated part of the artistic building and design culture: the inventory and history of architecture-bound art in the former GDR.

Art scholarly research on art in architecture after 1945 has so far been limited by the fact that there is no comprehensive documentation of the holdings. In addition, there has been a lack of social consensus on how to deal with these objects in the future, and there are no scientific standards with regard to strategies for evaluating and preserving art technology, conservation, restoration and the preservation of historical monuments.

For the first time, the project is dedicated to a broadly based art-technological survey for the specific research of architecture-related works of art from the period 1952 to 1989, which also includes the joint training of their creators at the HfBK Dresden and further cooperations of some graduates - organized as a production cooperative of visual artists "Kunst am Bau".
