At the Albertinum Dresden, the exhibition focused on one of the most important painters of German Romanticism: Caspar David Friedrich. Under the title “Caspar David Friedrich. Where It All Began”, the show explored key influences that shaped his distinctive style.
Another central theme of the exhibition was Friedrich’s artistic network. Paintings by his artist friends and contemporaries were presented, highlighting the impact of these connections on his artistic development. His relationships in Dresden and beyond proved crucial for his career.
The Art Collection (Custody) of the Dresden University of Fine Arts contributed four so-called reception paintings as loans. These works complemented the exhibition’s wall of contemporaries, expanding the perspective to include contemporary engagements with Friedrich’s legacy.
