Meeting place in Dresden-Pieschen
Pieschen gets a new off-space and meeting place, namely Karambolage. Made possible by a five-member team headed by artist Lisa Pahlke, visitors can enjoy a wide range of concerts, readings, exhibitions or just the space itself along with a drink and a vegan snack. The focus is not on consumption but on participation and exchange among visitors. A local, versatile, free space for the planning of serendipity.

Votive painting for a good cause
In her project DIEVOTIVE, artist and art therapist Sabine Hauptmanns, who is trained at the HfBK Dresden, devotes herself to an old Mexican tradition of votive painting. A collection of votive works created in collaboration with other artists has been assembled and exhibited as an artistic synthesis. Individual votive works are then sold, with 15% of the proceeds being donated to selected foundations, human rights organisations and environmental initiatives.

A lively hub of exchange and cooperation
Art student Annika Stoll wants to create a space in Dresden that invites creative people to work and participate. The highlights are not just the office and studio space, but also the holistic use of different event formats. Regular discussions, movie nights and exhibitions transform this space from a pure workplace to a lively meeting place. A one-of-a-kind multi-off-space and network incubator in Dresden.

“Since 2016, I have been living and working in Leipzig and studying at the HGB and have been involved in a few interdisciplinary exhibition and work projects. I would like to pursue my plan of creating a space, conceived as a meeting place for communication and as a multi-off-space, but I think I may be able to focus on that only after graduating.” (Annika Stoll, 2019)
Building a platform for exchanging material
Material for stage sets is usually expensive and therefore a financial hurdle especially for students and career starters. On the other hand, big theatres and operas often dispose of their sets, although the used material could be recycled. This is where Elise Sophia Richter wants to step in and set up an open pool for the exchange of used stage material.
This is good for the independent scene and for promoting a change in thinking in our throwaway society.

A piece of eternity
Travel is inspiration; food for the soul and spirit. It expands horizons and lets new ideas sprout. For her project Octopus Garden, painter Marie Athenstaedt would like to travel to Australia for a year and explore nature above and under water. With her pictures, she tries to hold on to a piece of eternity in our fast-paced world, thereby encouraging us to stop and think. The work is to be exhibited in Germany and Australia; you can follow the journey on a blog.

Gaining a foothold in the art world
“I am an artist. At present, my sculptural interest lies in modelling a material, an object with clay, then moulding it and giving it a different material character. I’m interested in creating confusion and slightly shifting the banality of life.”Sculptor Sophie Uchmann seeks a dialogue with other creative and self-employed people, to learn more about the professional life of freelance artists.

“When I applied for the first round of NETZWERK KREATIV 2015, I was just at the start of my studies. However, I was already pretty clear about what I wanted. I wanted to be successful. And by that I did not mean rich, fat and famous (and don’t mean that even today). What I meant was doing what I'm passionate about, something that’s the key essence of my life. Somehow I have always regarded my studies as a “test run” for “what’s to come” and always worked for that. And still do.”

“Now, I am on the verge of graduating and I do an admirable job of balancing studio work, bringing up a child, several part-time jobs and the other stuff you do, like going for a walk. In the last few years, I have made or revived many contacts, discussed, sought information, made a plan – even though sometimes I would prefer not to have a plan. I have visited exhibitions, held exhibitions (more to follow), and formed my own perspective, which is an ongoing process. It was always like this and continues to be so. But with more focus and clarity. My next goal? Positive megalomania. Jokes apart, I have a vision and I'm working on it as usual.“ (Maria Katharina Franz, 2019)
