EX14 is a student exhibition space on Königsbrücker Straße in Dresden that has been on these premises since June 2015. Previously, the team operated the exhibition space from a location on the Fritz-Reuter-Straße for four years. Students and alumni of the HfBK Dresden present their exhibits in EX14. Moreover, young artists from other cities are invited and larger thematic group exhibitions are also organised. The programme occasionally includes workshops, movie nights or panel discussions. All team members work voluntarily and free of charge to keep this free space available.

Laboratory for new theatre

Compagnie ZI is a group of five members brought together by their shared desire for creative work. As part of their work, they would like to help shape public spaces with the active use of art and theatre. Through collaboration between people who are connected to theatre and people disconnected with it, the group intends to unite different knowledge horizons in a laboratory for new forms of theatre. The resulting network should continue to expand and, in the future, grow together to form a large, interdisciplinary creative network.

Since its opening in December 2015, Galerie Stephanie Kelly has regularly exhibited works by young Dresden artists. The Dresden branch of a mysterious Californian gallery owner especially intends to help the local art scene gain more international renown. Located at the Neustädter Markt since 2019, a place in the immediate vicinity of other Dresden galleries and art spaces, the gallery has established itself as a showcase for young art. The team also includes students and alumni of the HfBK Dresden.

Artist duo

Georg Lisek and Susanne Hopmann have been working on artistic projects as the artist duo Hopmann & Lisek since 2013. They have managed to bring a series of complex joint projects to fruition, especially in the last two years. In 2014, for example, they presented the performative installation “Die zwei Gefahren”, an art event in a retirement home, in which its residents also participated. The interplay of video, space installation, performance and objects is characteristic of their working method.

Three young musicians from the HfM Dresden and two students from the HfBK Dresden have teamed up to produce a music video. With its technoid-acoustic song “Desynthese”, the band Komfortrauschen plays the soundtrack for a journey through a crazy microcosm. In the laboratory theatre of the HfBK Dresden, a miniature landscape has been created for the shoot and brought to life by tracking shots and animations. An imaginative role reversal of young and old, loud and quiet.

Project space in Löbtau

A group of young artists has come together and founded a project space called Stolle 33 behind the brick walls of an old locksmith workshop in Dresden-Löbtau. They work and put up exhibitions in this 50 square metre space – and in the adjoining garden in summers. In addition to different exhibition formats, the programme includes concerts, lectures, workshops and even its own film festival, the “Stollinale”. This place has become an oasis of art and a meeting place away from the main streets of the city.

Ariane Stamatescu and Mara Scheibinger are studying Stage Setting and Costume Design at the HfBK Dresden. Together they will present their diploma project “Stollen. Work case scenario” at the laboratory theatre of the academy in summer 2017. A conference play was developed and performed both in Dresden and Gießen in collaboration with Maria Huber and Carlos Franke from the Institute for Applied Theatre Studies Gießen. Laurenz Karsten, another networker, has composed music for this play. It will be exciting to know what this young work collective comes up with next...

Guitarist Judith Beckendorf and singer Victor Sepulveda met during their studies at the HfM Dresden. As a duo, they play with stylistic confidence through the history of pop music and a growing repertoire of original compositions. The two describe their music as a mixture of pop, jazz and soul. Patti Cathcart of “Tuck & Patti” described Judith&Victor as “the exquisite perfection”.
