Since 2015, Dominique Hille and Arina Essipowitsch have been working together as an artistic duo. Part of their work is to publish artist’s books where they present their photographic works. For the books, which are handmade and created in small editions, they experiment with elaborate printing processes, folds and haptic modifications. For their fourth publication, they would like to collaborate with other artist’s book experts and gain experience in the publishing industry.

The specialised company rita grechen is a network of theatre-inspired artists from all directions and disciplines that has grown since 2015. The combination of theatre, science and fine arts as a whole is the basis and method of its cooperation. It is important to take every active influence seriously, whether it comes from philosophers, a concrete wall or a feeling. Members of the network are based in Dresden and all over Europe, from Austria to Switzerland to Norway.

On the trail of collaborations between theatre-city-creative industry

Stage and costume designer Jakob Ripp stumbled upon the practice of cartography during a study visit to Jerusalem. For his project, he wants to create maps that illustrate the network of theatres and the urban spaces around them. Field research from the bird’s-eye view with the aim of highlighting the trails of theatre, art and crafts through a city. The maps are also intended to be the basis for future stagings and artistic works.

Projekt 2K17 is an interdisciplinary cooperation between students of the TU Dresden, the HfBK Dresden and external participants. It aims at a continuous exchange between the two institutions, which may also result in projects in the future. The first joint exhibition is dedicated to the social and political relations between Europe and Latin America: two continents that are closely linked in their history and are experiencing a strengthening, so to speak, of radical and misanthropic tendencies.

Since its opening in October 2017, Schimmel Projects - Art Centre Dresden has become an integral part of the Dresden off-scene. Its programme includes young contemporary art, particularly expansive, installative exhibits by international artists and curators. This benefits not only the local scene but also helps in forming a steadily growing cross-border network. For example, Rasmus Roos Lindquist, Max Stühlen and Josefine Schulz also present Dresden exhibits in other institutions and countries.

How does the new Saxon Police Law influence civil society and the freedom of artists? “What are you looking at?” is an attempt to approach this question. A series of lectures was designed together with the student council of the HfBK Dresden, which ended with a five-day workshop with the Peng Collective and the free “Polizeiklasse” (police class) of AdBK Munich. The aim is to critically discuss and provide information about the planned change in the law and take a stand on it.

Cindy Cat are freelance artists and cultural workers from the fields of radio, theatre, music (pedagogy) and fine arts. In these sectors, actors are often engaged in single combat. A collective or supportive organisation is rare. But this is not the only way to enable creative work in the long term. The trade union industry group Kunst/Kultur has therefore set itself the task of contributing to the improvement of the living and working conditions of cultural workers through networking and solidarity among them.

The “Institute for BETTER National Policy” (IfBS) is a cross-media,
artivist art project. IfBS stands for satire, freedom of art and solidarity and is committed to human rights policies. It sees itself as an artistic synthesis, which tries out and implements political participation and socio-political commitment in the sense of artivism using artistic means. In addition to artistic-activist formats, the IfBS publishes its explorations in the form of a ThinkTank.

The project "blueDog" is an ironic fake label that takes the mechanisms of the fashion industry and its marketing strategies ad absurdum. In workshops new underwear is made from old clothes. The project participants learn manufacturing and production techniques and can label their self-sewn garments at the end. Consumers become producers who can set an example with their very personal "blueDog" collection.

Music and stage as an artistic synthesis and narrative. Students of the HfM Dresden and the HfBK Dresden seek an artistic exploration of the polarities of war and peace in the past and present. They play baroque music arranged in a modern way on historical instruments, with lavish stage settings and costume design. The aim is to remember events of war and to make a stance for man’s profound need for peace.
