EU4ART_differences
Both our EU4ART Alliance and the European Commission believe that further enhancing artistic research at the university level in Europe is important. The HfBK Dresden, in collaboration with EU4ART partners, successfully applied for Horizon2020 financing with the concept "EU4ART differences - Artistic Research in Europe" in summer 2020. EU4ART is now one of 17 European higher education alliances working on new third-cycle studies offerings with additional funding.
From January 1, 2021 to December 31, 2023, EU4ART differences is supported by Horizon2020's SWAF (Science with and for Society) programme. The EU4ART alliance comprises art academies in Riga, Rome, Budapest, and Dresden. The entire amount of funding is around 2 million Euros.
Within the project funding, the following objectives have been set:
Enhancing the alliance universities' research profiles and expanding chances for artistic and scientific collaboration.
Promotion of a research culture, exploitation of academic excellence, and strengthening of alliance partner cooperation
Close new ties and strengthen existing cooperation with research and development centers such as Fine Art & Research Labs or graduate schools.
Expanding the project's societal reach, empowering artists, and making artistic practice and outcomes visible
Inside the European project team:
Till A. Baumhauer (HfBK): Speaker for EU4ART_differences and lead for “R&I Agenda and Transfer to Citizens and Society” (WP3)
Claudia Reichert (HfBK): Project Coordinator and lead for “Project Management” (WP1)
Ádám Albert (MKE): Lead for “Fine Arts Lab Establishment” (WP2)
Franco Ripa di Meana (ABARoma): Lead for “The Creative Eco-System” (WP4)
Jānis Gailītis (LMA): Lead for “Dissemination & Sustainability” (WP5)
In the winter semester 2022/23 and summer semester 2023, as part of the Horizon2020-funded project EU4ART_differences, a one-year pilot phase for a postgraduate additional qualification with an emphasis on the interfaces between art and research was developed. The project aimed to give up to ten students the possibility to expand their skills, professional fields of action, and international networks. Professors, workshop leaders, Meisterschüler:innen, and alumni have beforehand expressed a strong desire for more in-depth training in artistic research skills and a third-cycle offer in both faculties. The postgraduate supplementary qualification should, on the one hand, improve our postgraduates' chances of success in the artistic and/or scientific fields, while also increasing the attractiveness of the HfBK in the third cycle, making the university internationally recognizable and competitive. The "AG Dritter Zyklus" developed an idea with professors from both faculties.
The concept of higher qualification is not meant to compete with the existing Meisterschüler:innen program, but rather to complement and grow it. It strengthens linkages between postgraduates from both faculties and allows for personal and professional exchanges with postgraduates and professors from EU4ART universities and associated partners. It increases the HfBK's academic appeal as well as its exterior impact on the regional educational and cultural landscape. Possible structures can be devised and tested during the pilot phase, and then incorporated into a future PhD program.
The call for applications was published in May and the decision was announced to the scholarship holders in June 2022.
