The application for admission must be submitted electronically to the HfBK Dresden by completing the electronic application form in the ► application portal of the HfBK Dresden before the respective deadline.
The application for admission must be accompanied electronically by
- a curriculum vitae in tabular form with precise details of your previous educational background,
- Copies of certificates of higher education entrance qualification*/** or copies of certificates or proof of admission according to § 2 para. 3 to 6 of the matriculation regulations
- Proof of previous periods of study and study or examination achievements
- Description of personal development and desired course of study
*Instead of proof of higher education entrance qualification, an interim report card or half-year information can be submitted with the application.

The electronically submitted application documents and original documents, such as a certified copy of the higher education entrance qualification, language certificate for international applicants, must be submitted later ►by post in the event of admission.
The portfolio with work samples should
- contain 25 to 30 artistic works of fine art
- Submission as a digital portfolio is made via the ► application portal (upload):
- the digital portfolio must contain all work samples from the original analog portfolio!
- digital images of the artistic works in a merged PDF file with a total size of no more than 30 megabytes
- optional: artistic works in digital form (e.g. video and sound works) with a maximum total size of 50 megabytes
- a complete list of the submitted work samples, each with details of dimensions and materials used, in PDF format
- A signed declaration that the artistic work was produced by the applicant must be enclosed.
The original portfolio with the artistic work samples must be submitted for the aptitude test interview.
In the pre-selection phase, the submitted digital portfolio of artistic works will be evaluated.
The evaluation of the portfolio is based on
- the level of craftsmanship,
- the level of artistic ability
- the existing originality
- the creative potential
as examination criteria. The applicant must demonstrate in the submitted artistic work that he/she fulfills at least three of the above criteria. The pre-selection is passed if more than half of the examiners have awarded the grade "passed" in their assessment of the portfolio.
The aptitude test, to which the portfolio with the originals of the artistic works must be brought, consists of
- a one-day practical-artistic examination in which a given artistic task must be completed within a processing time of at least 5 and at most 10 hours and
- a final examination interview lasting a minimum of ten and a maximum of sixty minutes, which focuses in particular on the applicant's ability to self-reflect, theoretical knowledge / knowledge of art in general and contemporary art, the applicant's motivation and the works submitted and produced during the aptitude test.
The work produced in the artistic examination is assessed according to
- the level of craftsmanship,
- the level of artistic ability
- the existing originality and
- the creative potential
with regard to the task set as examination criteria.
The applicant must demonstrate in the artistic work produced during the examination that he/she fulfills at least three of the above criteria. In the aptitude interview, the following are also assessed
the ability of self-reflection,
theoretical knowledge / knowledge of art in general and of contemporary art
will be assessed. The applicant must prove in the aptitude interview that he/she fulfills these criteria. The aptitude test has been passed if more than half of the examiners have awarded a "pass" in the assessment of the work produced in the artistic examination and the aptitude interview.
Admission to studies is governed by the enrolment regulations of the Dresden University of Fine Arts. After passing the aptitude test, applicants receive admission to the Dresden University of Fine Arts. The result of the aptitude test is valid for enrolment in the winter semester following the aptitude test and in the winter semester of the following calendar year.
If the aptitude test is not passed, the applicant may reapply at the next deadline.
Admission to the Dresden University of Fine Arts is only possible in the winter semester. Annual admission is determined by the number of places available.

In order to enrol successfully, you must first accept the place. To do this, log in to the ► application portal with your access data and go to your application. There you will now find the "Accept place" button.
If you are not (yet) able to start your studies, you can also defer or reject your place here.
Once you have accepted the place, you can enrol online at the start of the enrolment period. You will be asked for further information relevant to enrolment, such as health insurance details, and you can upload your passport photo for your student ID. Finally, you will receive information about the semester fee to be paid and can print out the enrollment application.
For enrollment, the documents submitted digitally so far and, if necessary, further proof must be submitted by post together with the signed enrollment application!
